Lincoln Property is the fifth largest property manager in the United States. When I joined the company, 950 of our 3,500 employees were using Novell Groupwise for email. We were maintaining an expensive infrastructure including servers, a SAN and data center space. It was difficult to maintain our email archive. It was also tough to find IT staff skilled in Groupwise. At the same time, we were looking to outsource as many of our mission-critical applications as possible.

Evaluating our options, we first considered remaining with Groupwise or switching to Microsoft Exchange. At the prodding of one of our tech-savvy partners, we tried out Google Apps and liked what we found. We did a comprehensive TCO analysis that included licensing and maintenance, data center costs, spam protection, server, SAN, migration costs, you name it.

Brand Awareness

Some known companies are already seen in SuperBowl Ads but not Google Search. Yesterday Google Search provided a simple demo on how to get the information you need using search engine, from going to Paris, booking tickets, where to buy a flower, a gift, name it you will find it.

Mobile TV ad by FLO.TV is also a great way to promote their service but also to the .TV domain name extension. Most businesses are using .COM for their website and email, but if the domain name is not available you can register other extension such as .TV .NET .ORG .INFO .BIZ .US, and other country extension. Visit NeedName.com to search your domain name.

Netstumble.com upgrading to cloud computing

Posted by EM @ KING.NET On 4:20 PM 0 comments
Netstumble.com is upgrading from dedicated server to cloud computing hosting. The WHOIS service, history check, domain name blogs, and message board will be down for the next two to four hours today. The move to cloud hosting service is to prepare Netstumble for future growth, easy upgrade of hardware CPU's and memory to scale the service as needed.

Sorry for the inconvenience. We will back as soon as practical.

Important information about .CN domain names.

Posted by EM @ KING.NET On 4:35 AM 0 comments
This is to inform you that the .CN registry is requiring verification on all existing .CN domain names. If they are unable to verify the registrant, they will be deleting these domains. As such, the registrant, for the given domain, will receive the email below on Monday Feb 8th, 2010. This includes instructions that they must follow, in a timely manner, in order to retain their domain name.

Below is an example of the email they will receive for each .CN domain name.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Instructions to prevent deletion of your cn domain:
Dear .CN domain holder,
Important:
The .CN registry, CNNIC, has implemented a new policy.  All .CN domain holders must submit documents according to the requirements below or they will lose their domain name(s).  CNNIC must receive this form before Feb 15, 2010.

Message Security for Google Apps, powered by Postini, now provides Message Log Search. This provides administrators with visibility into how messages are processed, filtered and delivered, and insight in the traffic patterns for the domain.

Use Message Log Search to:
- Run searches on message log data using a variety of criteria and queries.
- View search results and details about groups or individual messages.
- Track what happened to an inbound or outbound message -- whether it was delivered, quarantined, archived, encrypted, or other disposition -- and see if the message triggered a specific filter.
- Track all messages for a specific sender, recipient, domain, or IP address.

HOWTO Export contacts from Outlook to Excel.

Posted by EM @ KING.NET On 12:07 AM 0 comments
This HOWTO article applies to Microsoft Office 2007. I think it should work for Microsoft Office 2003 as well. This is to export your Outlook Contacts information to an Excel worksheet. A little information to share about the difference between Outlook Address Book, and Outlook Contacts. "They are both part of Outlook. However, the Address Book is a compilation of the different address lists you might have stored in Outlook, such as Personal Address Book (.pab), LDAP Internet directories, the Global Address List (GAL), or other third-party address books. Contacts is just one of the address lists that makes up the Address Book." (2010, Office.Microsoft.com)

175 Million People Log Into Facebook Every Day

Posted by EM @ KING.NET On 12:21 AM 0 comments
"Last year we interviewed Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. This year we interviewed her again. Notably, this time I brought a tripod with me and didn’t cut off Sheryl’s forehead.

A year ago Facebook had 150 million users, and more than 200 million people visited the site monthly. I noted “You realize it’s like 1 in 5 people in the world that are on the internet visit Facebook.” Sandberg replied, joking “So we have 4 in 5 more to go.”

The thing is, they’re well on their way to getting those other 4. Facebook has more than doubled in size to 350 million registered users in the last year. By this summer well over half of all Internet users will likely visit Facebook each month." (2010, TechCrunch.com)

Google Voice in your iPhone

Posted by EM @ KING.NET On 6:32 PM 0 comments
"Apple may have blocked the Google Voice internet telephony app from its App Store, but Google has executed a nifty end-run around the blockade by releasing Google Voice as a web page that is accessible by any HTML5 web browser. Simply direct your iPhone or Palm Pre to google.com/voice to make calls from your Google Voice account (Android and Blackberry owners can just keep using their native Google Voice apps)" (2010, Wired.com)

Actually I like this approach, because you don't have to download any software to your iPhone. Just point your safari internet browser URL address to http://www.google.com/voice, login using your account ID and password, you're ready to call anyone, and not wasting your mobile air minutes. While in the same screen, click the (+) sign to book mark "Add to Home Screen" so that it will look like a native apps.
